Any Leyden owners have had to replace their igniter ? If so, how tough was it ? Muss

takes a good 20 minutes... and a long handled 1/4" nutdriver.

Hello

It should not be difficult. There should be one screw holding it in from the back. See pic below (Hope this Helps)

The old 250 watt Travis Ignitors were changed for large steel stoves to newer lower 200 watt ignitors the end of September 2009

Here is a good web site for Lopi Ignitors.

I put this together based on a previous thread:

LEYDEN IGNITER REPLACEMENT (#250-00243):

1. Remove burn pot and refractory panels.
2. Remove screws holding the sheet metal guard surrounding the igniter.
3. Remove screw holding the igniter tab on stove.
4. Remove stove rear panels to access rear of stove.
5. Using long universal screwdriver w/ "magnetic" 1/4 chuck, remove screws from the square plate w/U cut-out.
6. Disconnect igniter wire quick disconnect terminals at rear of stove.
7. Pull wires thru from front of stove and remove igniter unit.
8. Re-thread new igniter unit wires from burn pot area to the back of stove.
9. Re-attach igniter tab at front of stove.
10. Re-attach metal guard surrounding igniter.
11. Re-connect quick disconnects at rear of stove.
12. Re-attach screws to square plate w/U cut-out.

NOTES:
* The screws that hold the square plate w/U cut-out are accessed from the back of the stove and are in quite a way.
* You need a LONG universal ratchet screwdriver with magnetic tip.

Richkorn has the plan!!

The most difficult part of my igniter replacement was disconnecting the exhaust venting and moving the stove out for access to the rear of the unit.

Next time I may build some slides to move the stove on as the stove is HEAVY! Either that or jackhammer an access door through the back of the fireplace . . . . . (Not serious about that last statement). . .

Very good instructions for future reference. Thanks. Anyone know of a good website that you can purchase one from?

See Don 2222's post above. I clicked on it and apparently Travis Industries only allows dealers to sell parts to consumers in their area. Not sure how they would verify this, but you may need to contact a local Travis dealer for the part. It was $109.00 on the website Don provided FWIW.
