Hello Hearth Room,

More than anything, I want to install a small freestanding direct vent gas stove in our downstairs room. (600 sq ft) I've looked at Quadrafire (Garnet II), Valor (President) and Jotul (Jøtul GF 100 DV II Nordic QT).

My difficulty arises from the fact that I need 5ft 6in of rear venting to get to the outside, and they all seem to say "not possible". My ceiling height is also only 7'1" making a long rise impractical. The living room is above this room.

Shall I abandon this idea? Or is there a way around the problem?

I attach a sketch of the room. The other sides of the room are not feasible for various reasons.

Thanks!
Peet
