I don't get but 3" a year in snow, if that, so not too worried there, but I do live under a giant red oak. Dwarfs my 2-story house, and drops thousands of acorns. It dented the crap out of my car last year. I'm imagining how that would sound...
But we grow moss like crazy here. I suspect a metal roof wouldn't so much.
 
For moss with an asphalt roof you can put in those zinc strips (there is something else too) that does a good number on the moss.

I've got the zinc strips. The moss seems to love it.
 
Oh sure. It's a healthy tree, just f'in huge. Never had any large branches come down, and the neighbor's arborist brother cleans it up regularly. I should post a picture...
