Mom turned 70 on Friday so as a good son I loaded up a truckload of wood that has been seasoned for 5 years. I know its not some expensive jewelry or something but its so hard to buy for someone who has what she needs already. Much of this wood is cut 16" and is split small which makes it easier for her to load the Hearthstone. Ash, hickory and a little apple mixed in. Drove north to Houghton Lake ( 2 hours) and delivered and stacked it in the racks in the garage. She was thrilled! She can burn that stove with the best of us and just loves sitting in front of the fire watching football on Saturday's and Sunday's. Love you Mom....:):):)

Thats a very good deed you did! I bet she was happier then you could know. I do something similar every year, I bring down a load of firewood to my grandparents in West Virginia. They like to brag to all their friends that their grandson brings them firewood every year! I am willing to bet your mom may do the same.

    Good job!

you should have taken her two.....:). Enjoy the moments with her while you can. All too soon they are gone. These times are precious. Enjoy a good cup of joe next to the fire with her.

Absolutely a fine thing. It's not the $$$ value, it a present from heart to heart that means so much more. Good karma will come back, no doubt.

My dad used to buy my mom something like a new boat motor or new fishing rod every yr for her B-day. I was never so generous although I would occasionally buy her a box of TIDE and even bring home some laundry.

Hey Wisher, good for you for keeping Mom happy. It is also one more point of being ahead on the wood supply. You can do this for others and not hurt yourself. ;)

Your absolutely right Dennis. I know that she wont have any problems burning this load. She has a bunch of seasoned oak as well in the garage so she's set for this winter and with what's left outside should last her next year as well. :)

Good Job!!!!!! Nothing better for Mom then a gift from the heart. I would do something kinda simlar for my Mom. I would rototiller her garden every year for mothers day for the last 20 years or so. She was always so happy when I did it for her, I lost my mom 3 month ago to cancer. Do what ever you can while you have her around. Frank

My mom is in her late 60's now and I'm always doing something for her whether it's mowing the grass, changing the oil in her car, rebuilding her porch, and my latest, building her a woodshed. She burn's wood and up until last year bought wood from dealers who usually delivered lousy wood for top $$$$. After I installed my stove last season I made a deal with her, go halves with me on a log splitter and I'll supply all the wood you need. She agreed and now has more quality wood on hand than she ever had before.

Good for you Halligan. Way to go, helping her out. I often lend my parents a hand around the house/yard. Both are 79 this week. I am hoping they have many, many more years of good health. Keep up the good work for her. You are simply returning the favor of all the years she took care of you when you were young. That is the way I look at it.
