Looked at the Mt Vernon stove and the wife loved it, but my concern is!!!!!!! Has Quadra-Fire got the bugs out of this unit??? Lot of money to have a pretty pellet stove that does not work. Thanks Greg

Yes, the new ones work awesome. The original models with a new control board and wall control also work awesome. Some also need a new blower because the first batches had a few noisy ones. I helped out one customer about an hour away who had an original AE insert with a noisy blower. Quad told me to just replace it under warranty. New one was totally silent. The guy was also have flame height issues originally but I think it just needed a good cleaning. I was willing to give him a new control board and wall switch but he said its been working perfectly since I was out there.

If you like the stove I would go for it. If you search around you can find a post from another member who purchased one (3 pages of posting). His post might be in the hearth room section.

Another reason I really like Quad is because they stand behind their products. Any time we have issues they either give us credit for a whole new stove (if its a non fixable part) or have us replace parts under warranty. Just make sure you have a good dealer who will stand behind you as well, since I have a good relationship with Quad it makes everything go smoother.

jtp10181, Thats good,,,,,,,,,, Did you every find out if there were any other wod burning inserts besides the 2700i that would fit an elment 42 fireplace???

Jtp,
I like my Mt Vernon as well. I bought mine this last march. It was manufactured in Oct of 06. It has the C1 board but my wall control is an older one. The wall control only has two pellet settings. What I am I missing by not having the latest board and wall control? Right now I can only run it on Utility pellets. When I run it on premium the pot gets too full, the flame get lazy and it smokes outside. I have tried about 10 different pellets that claim to be premium and none work on this setting.

Thanks!

Greg - The wood specialist at Heatilator basically told me if it fits you can do it. I found a table that showed what would work in what Heatilators and the E42 listed nothing, but I find it hard to believe that the 2700i would not fit, and the 3100i may fit also. I would suggest measuring the inside of your unit and just check the Quad web page to see what would fit.

BIGISLANDHIKERS - the problem you describe is the issue with the old control boards, you should contact your dealer for either the upgrade via the laptop cable or a new control board and wall pad.

Isnt the C1 the latest board? If not, would this be a big enough issue to get a new board or would I need to pay for it? What aspects of performace can get upgraded with just a software update....which require an actual new board and wall control?

Thanks!!
BIH

I am not sure what the numbers on the boards mean, I have not dealt with a lot of them. Its was my understanding the new boards don't work with the old wall controls so I'm not sure how you could have that configuration.

The software upgrade is supposed to fix an error in the fuel tables which was causing the tall lazy flames with the premium pellet settings. Many people had to set util pellets and flame height -5 just to get it to burn good. After the fuel table update you are supposed to be able to run on Prem Pellets flame height 0 as it should be. Replacing the control board and wall stat would give the same results. If you submit a claim to quadrafire with your serial number and explain the problems they are having they will probably contact the nearest dealer with what they suggest to be done. They will probably recommend a new control board and wall control under warranty, or just the software update. Depends on what they get from the serial number.

You could also just contact your dealer directly but if you don't like their help / answer then you should go right to Quad.

Mt Vernon insert owner here. I'm loving the ease of cleaning, the glass stays clean. No problems.

Well,,,, I just could not buy the Mt. Vernon stove. To many parts to replace or wear out. So I bought a Lopi Revere wood burning insert. Will fit right in to the Heatilator fireplace. Im back in the burning business. Already have 2 cords of wood and getting installed next week. Thanks for all the help, I just could not go with a pellet stove. Now if I can get my wife to haul some wood in the house that would be great!

Well, my Quadrafire Mt. Vernon insert has been nothing but trouble since last November when it was installed.
A month or two after the install, the blower fan was making noise, shortly after the combustion/exhaust fan was making a louder noise.
They came out and replaced the blower and bent the blades on the other to stop it.
Later on in the winter, I couldn't get it lit any more, the glow plug would come on, then you would hear the relay click, the glow plug went off and it was in error state.
They came out and replaced the control board, thermostat and thermalcouple all at the same time.
That was last April and it hasn't been used very much until now.
I went downstairs tonight, the combustion/exhaust fan is making a loud racket again and there is no way to shut it up.

Again I left a message for the service company.

If I could, I would return this stove in a heartbeat, I see nothing but future issues with it.
