For your viewing pleasure here is the PVDC that I recently installed in my living / dinning room. So far so good! It was also my first attempt at laying tile. All that is left is to stain the wooden trim around the hearth pad.

Is that what I see in your picture? Small and hard to tell....

Got a link to the extension or is it custom built?
 
I got mine on eBay in 2012, not sure if same seller though. They are a tad on the not so attractive side "but" it beats worrying about the stove going out when you are at work..

I siliconed the seam and where it meets the old hopper, you use your current lid.
I think if you click on my pic it gets bigger it does on this end on my I-pad
