    Hello

I have a friend that has this stove. With the lose ash pan door, the stove will stop and when you hit the On/Off button the # 3 light will blink. It was professionally cleaned and only 1 year old. Both latches broke off the ash pan door! What a PITA.

Did anyone else have this problem? Is there a better latch than the OEM replacement? Is there a modification that works better?

    See manual > http://goldeneaglestoves.com/Manuals/5520.pdf

Hey Don what does that area actually look like?

A real picture might get a possible solution.

Those diagrams are usually on useful for locating a part on the stove.

Please remember a lot of us are old and need a good clear sizable picture.

This is my first sighting of this redesigned stove. Who the Hell designed that? I though US Stove was going to help Breckwell? I think they are running it right into the ground with that design. Come on this makes Heatilator look so much better, good job USS.

Yuck, looks like an all metal (using decent metal) replacement would be the ticket.

You should be able to find something from a Google search for fasteners or cam latches or latches.

Just watch out for the stuff that comes from across the pond.

It is a rebranded USSC unit.

So it has nothing to do with the BIG E?

    Hello

The control panel is the standard 1 RPM Digital control board that says Breckwell on it!

But if you think that looks shotty, I saw the auger backing plate! Fines spewing out all over the place even though there is factory red RTV! You can see right through the cracks! It is not a simple plate that can be unbolted to remove the auger! Another shotty design!

Don, I am thinking the same thing. Big E with a different name. I was never a USSC fan and Breckwell lost me a few years ago. I will not bash a product unless I can show proof that it is bad and I have a stack of paperwork on units I have sold to prove there is a quality issue.

$1399 is that for a brand new or reconditioned stove? I know the Heatilator CAB-50 has a suggested price of $1699 and this stove is basically an improved version of the Big E. From all the units I have sold this will run circles around the Big E. A truly awesome unit.

I have a 5520 also and the interior latches are junk they are a bent piece of metal that is too short to catch the interior of the stove front hence it fails to keep the ash pan tight hence an airleak and improper burn . What I did with mine is I got a longer piece of metal with the same width (just about a half inch longer , used their piece as a bending template bent the new ones drilled them and attached to the plastic latches and viola the longer length on the top end catches the frame and pulls the pan snug and seals it befor I did this my burn pot always overflowed and had to empty it at least once per day now I can burn it for days without any problems.

[IMG]lengthen the inner piece(right side) shown in photo (attached with screw and two nuts and a lock spacer on the bottom of the thing.

Good idea. I ordered new ones from breckwell and had to put approx 6 washers under each so it would grab the lip and hold tight. Then the customer must have beat them up again and they are now broken!

    Hello

That's great. My friend with this stove is using the Home Depot FireSide Ultra wood pellets and the auger keeps jaming from all the sawdust and fines in the bags. What wood pellets are you using?

What is the air wash fix?

I'm using Lignetics - half way through my second ton. Burning good. Last year used pellets from Curtis Lumber.
The air wash fix is a gasket behind the burn box and some insulation reducing the size of the air wash gap on the window - reduced by about 60%. I think I will block it 100% to get even more performance --- others on the Forum have also applied this fix for this stove.

Going to attach the files from US Stove about the 2 fixes they sent me. I think the attached below. I will also take a phone picture.

Here is the stove in the basement. The pellets in this pic are the ones from Curtis Lumber.
