Just unpacked my P68!

Should have started earlier on it, but I just finished the hearth pad and the grout is drying. Hopefully I'll be lighting the fire off around lunch-time tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone and all of you suggestions. I learned a lot, saw some cool stoves and met some great people. The biggest factors in my decision to buy this stove was that it was definitely quieter, most BTUs in a reasonable sized package, I got a great deal on it and (most importantly) it makes my wife happy!!

I'll post some stove porn once I get it hooked up!

Ok, sorry it took so long for pictures....

We have been enjoying some nice heat and not a peep from the boiler since I plugged her in!!

Custom made hearth pad, 3/4" Plywood, 1/2" cement board and a $7 box of cheap tile from lowes with a maple edge. Also have it hooked up through a APC BE750G UPS, rated for 354 Joules of surge protection. I was hoping that it had some more protection, but for pretty short money, I am going to have a whole house surge suppressor installed.

We have bee playing with some different pellets and really like the Okanagans and the Vermonts. The Okanagans might be throwing a 'bit' more heat, but that evaluation is lacking any scientific data to back it up. I think I might stock up on Vermonts as they are a bit cheaper and more local. Maybe I'll split the order between the two...

Thanks for the pics....the stove & hearth look great. Keep the stove clean, & enjoy the heat!!

Looks great; I'm sure you will be happy with it. I have burned Okies (had to turn down the feed rate), Vermont and NEWPs (last year's batch). Happy with both the Okies and Vermont. My only complaint with the Vermont brand was a lot of fines. This very well may have been the handling at the place I bought the bags from. I don't think you can go wrong with either one of those pellets. Happy burning!

im new to the hearth group and I am really enjoying all the info posted. I also own the p68, loe the pig. Just installed this fall. I noticed on the top of your stove there was something there. Is it an air freshner? Just wondering

Bingo. $12 at your local hardware/stove shop. Its made for a wood stove flue, but I wanted to know how hot she was getting.

Newf Lover, I was about to disagree with you about the fines in the VT pellets, untill I just topped off the stove tonight. The first bag was absolutely fantastic, this last one, I ended up scooping a lot off the top to try and get some of the fines out of my hopper. I have a few more bags, so we'll see how they go.

Good lookin stove and hearth pad! Enjoy the warmth! :)

Great looking stove, and thats some serious fire you have going in it too . Enjoy the heat !
