Folks,

I'm new to the site and just thought some of the old timers on here will enjoy reading about my adventure. Copy and paste the links below to see my journey from an uninitiated commoner to a Jotul burning maniac.

Part 1: http://wp.me/pt2oy-6Q
Part 2: http://wp.me/pt2oy-6W
Part 3: http://wp.me/pt2oy-71
Part 4: http://wp.me/pt2oy-78
Part 5: http://wp.me/pt2oy-7J

Most of what I learned that made my experience a successful self-installation, I learned here on the boards. Thank You!

I crouched down and peered up the rectum of the giant cash-sucking beast. There was a crispy looking mud-daubed nest on the side of the chimney and a long shaft ending in a spot of blue sky. The sides of the chimney looked coated in black-ice - glazed creosote.

Oh man! What an awesome read! I hope more people venture over to your site and take a look! Great writing.

Your glass will not stay crystal clear all the time. Your glass will get dirty when burning in the shoulder season. Mine does too. I don't even bother cleaning it any more. When winter sets in and your burning hot fires for longer periods non stop, it'll stay mostly clean. You'll probably still end up with black on the lower coners. I have the two door model. More important to have dry wood. Hissing and sizzling is a bad thing. Welcome and fabulous post/story! Loved it!!

What a great read, I just wish you would post some pictures of your install to go along with it. I think you will really enjoy your insert this winter, we love our 450. The glass on mine only gets dark if I cut the air back too much early on and don't burn it hot enough, or the wood is wet. Enjoy

Oh man, that is just great! This should be published. What a read! Thanks!

Steve
