So, it's funny what you take for granted as being normal. Luckily talking to others, and posting here, really help clarify things for those of us with little first hand experience.
Last season I burned newp, but just over half a ton. Then started this season with the stove getting the auger and ignitor replaced.
Burned the remaining 20 bags this fall. Since then I have burned another full ton (in the new bags with a window), and recently switched to Okanagans. The okies clearly make my stove happier and 'feel' warmer. I've been using up some of my remaining newp bags that I have on the porch, before going back to remaining okies in the barn...
After swapping brands it is clear the newp are causing my stove to occasionally groan/whine. The auger seems to have issues with some of their larger pellets it seems (guessing). Perhaps it is the thickness of their outer skin(?). They also are producing much more ash, which given the design of the enviro empress means more downtime for cleaning, as the burn pot clogs within 2-3 bags.
I did a swap with my father, 2 bags of newp for a bag of green team and a bag of potomac that he got cheap from lowes a while back. So I am going to give those a try, and burn the rest of the okies.... but my main issue is that I still have an un-opened ton of newp in the barn...
I've got their customer rep's number/name, but honestly, is anyone else here burning newp without an issue? Perhaps it's the combination with my stove? Is there anyone with an enviro that is burning more that a handfull of bags before having to clean the burn pot?
