Educate me, it may not be the cleanest looking install, but what is dangerous if flu pipe is properly installed up chimney?

BTW, Calverton is out East on the island, about one hour from me.
 
understood, its about :15 minutes from me.
well my fingers are crossed that what we see is durarock and not sheet rock. (although my durarock was never that white.)
also, his hearth seems about 18" short of the 18" it's supposed to be from the door.
however, those tiles on the floor of the house, (like we had at school)... may be ok for a minute if you dump a hot log, but i doubt an inspector would allow that to stove burn with no hearth extension.....
wouldnt you have at least cleaned up a bit?
