    I've seen this in Haiti on several trips there. One American priest supported one mountain village for over 20 years by personally collecting donations in his home diocese in PA, and taking them to Haiti himself, using them to build water works for agriculture and clean drinking water. That entire region is now a fertile crescent due to this one man's perseverance and faith.

    Trees in general are an endangered species on haiti. They are now cutting less trees after some other hero introduced the population to those cheap solar cookers,which was were the trees were all going for firewood for cooking.
