how long will wood stored out side last? it will be stacked neatly, open on the sides, and covered on top with plywood at an angle to run water off.

a good long time
 
Depends on the climate to some extent, but so long as it starts out as nice sound wood, and it's kept up off direct ground contact and kept reasonably dry, it'll still be stacked there as perfectly burnable firewood long after you're 6' under in the ground next to it. Rick
 
I agree with Rick.

We have an 8 year supply on hand right now and are not worried about rot.
