Patagonia is an immense, wild and beautiful land composed of the southern 1200 miles or so of both Argentina and Chile from Cape Horn in the south to about the Colorado River in South America.

Although originally inhabited by the “Yamana” (native migrants thought to have come from Siberia some 10,000 years ago), Ferdinand Magellan saw these people in the 1500’s first on a large island burning fires for warmth and cooking and dubbed it “Tierra del Fuego” or Land of Fire. Charles Darwin spent 5 years here some 300 years later doing his famous works aboard the HMS Beagle, a sailing vessel.

On a recent visit to Patagonia, I brought back photos of more modern Patagonian fires used for cooking, warmth and decor/ambiance.
