I was tuning up my stove this summer; getting ready for the burning season.
I bought some Rutland (Buff colored) fireplace mortar and patched all the hairline
cracks in my Skamol refactory panels.
I gently brushed off the panels with a soft brush to clean off any loose ash, etc.
and then spackled it on with a putty knife, just like I do with drywall.
Fired up the stove 24 hours later to "heat-cure" it. The color match is perfect.
We'll see how well it lasts; but, so far I'm impressed!
UPDATE: After about 4 fires, the patches have all pulled off of the Skamol... So,
back to the drawing board. I think I'll contact Rutland and see what they recommend.
Maybe I should have wetted the Skamol prior to applying the mortar?
