I just picked up a few bags to try (I heard they were great pellets) of Armstrong pellets from BC. There is a warning label for the state of california that states this product contains something that causes cancer. Is this something they are adding to the pellets, or are all pellets and firewood under this advisory? has anyone seen this before or know?

Harmon XXV
1.2 tons burned this year

Hey morsnow,I am a marine spray painter (I spray paint boats for living)and there is not a day that goes by that I dont handle a product that is "known to the state of Calif.to cause cancer".Been doing this for 20 years plus(OH GOD!)&I'm still kickin.I think as long as you aren't smokin' those pellets out of a pipe, you'll be just fine my friend!"JUST MY 2 CENTS!"

Tell us what it specifically says, or throw a picture up. We can't tell you if it was added until we know what it is. Remember, California is the home of the consumer warning. Several years ago they had a warning placed on Washington Apples that they were grown in Washington :-S Just a Californiaism.

I think my matress that I sleep on every night has the same tag on it.....I'm with Cat900, Look at tags to anything and everything and I bet you will find that according to Ca it will cause cancer. Even say a bag of play sand that you buy for your kids sand box as I learned this summer... lets see what's "in" or can we get from the pellets that could cause cancer, smoke! of course but I hope we are all venting this outside..sounds silly to me.

I've seen something like that on my Clean Burn pellet bags. The first brand of pellets I've ever seen it on.
California Proposition 65
Warning
Combustion of this product results in the emission of Carbon Dioxide, soot and other combustion byproducts which are known by the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm.

LOL, I had a ton of Okies delivered today and they now have the same warning too. I guess I better find something else to smoke!

EDIT: Interesting link on the topic. Apparently wood dust is known in California to cause cancer. One more reason I am glad that I live in Maine!!!

Proposition 65

....It is also cheaper for the maker of the packaging to print in on the warning label on everything, instead of packaging destined exclusivly to California. Similar to the label you see on boxes that say "Reg to Penn. Dept. of Agriculture" agian it's cheaper. just my .02

I own a vinyl printing company in NJ. We are the largest printers of vinyl pool liners in the USA. We also due a big juvenile line and do drapery lamination. I can tell you first hand California is the toughest state to pass there fire codes, juvenile matress codes, and yes even pool liner codes. They have just crazy standards the are unrealistic to the rest of the country.

....land of the fruits and nuts .......
yes, many of the residents out there are referred to this way.
I was once told that California was like a bowl of cereal - full of fruits, nuts, and flakes.

Better known as "Crunchy granola heads".

Guess that means in the future full family sized Hazmat suits and supplied air breathers are going to be mandatory accessories for owning a stove. And, in the future all homes will have to be built from solid large blocks of stove, cause anything else you breathe will be toxic.

California mandated warning follows.

Living in California is known to cause cancer due to breathing human exhausts.

Al Gore causes cancer...

OR some companies may choose to NOT do business in CA.....if they make it too hard, then just pick up your ball and bat and go play elsewhere...

And good 'ol New York isn't far behind.....

Ingroung swimming pool maintance is how i make my living. We replace about 30 ingroung liners per year. I assumed the vinyl was made and printed overseas? The manufactures Triac, Tera and all the others are very elusive about the actual vinyl they use. Nobody wants to talk about the quality of the vinyl or the longetivity of the print. Loop Loc claimes to use "premium vinyl" what does that mean? What makes there vinyl premium? There is no ratings. Anytime I have talked to the reps they just kind of walk around the question. I want to sell a good liner that is going to look good for a godd period of time. Which manufactures do you supply to? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, rick

Everything can cause cancer I'm starting to think. Chimney pipe manufacturers also need to put California Cancer warnings on their components now.

Rick I sent you a PM

Did you know that there was once a study done where they proved that a sterilized dime implanted under the skin of a mouse caused cancer?? California really is the king (or queen) of paranoia about "causes cancer". I have tons of things that I've bought and had that are "known by the state of California to cause cancer". Including my own ton of Armstrongs waiting to be burned in a couple of weeks. Don't sweat it.
