I ordered my pellets from pellet sales .com a week ago. I ordered 3 tons of andes and 2 tons of cleanfires. I ordered more of the andes because they were btu rated at 8360 and I noticed the cleanfires increased btu from last year to a little over 8,000. Now today I go to the website and they have the Andes at 7980 . I bought 3 tons at a premium of 259 a ton vs cleanfires at 239 because they were advertised at 8360 btu,s.Now I am very pissed I paid all that extra money for a pellet that has less btus than the ones for $20 less a ton. I dont understand how they could just change this and not inform people who bought andes thinking they were getting a premium hot burning pellet just to find out we were better of saving $20 a ton and stay with the cleanfires. I emailed them tonight and if they dont make good I will never buy from them again. Did anone else see the btu rating on the andes at 8360 ?

I wouldn't wait for an email back....I emailed them about a coupon I received in the mail (almost after the expiration date), and have never gotten a response. If I were you, I'd be calling them first thing in the morning to get it straightened out.

I figured I would email them because I am so pissed I didnt want to blow up on the phone. I just noticed something else weird. No more than 20 min ago they had the cleanfires on there page now they are off. I am willing to bet the btu rating will drop on them also. I questioned the guy on the phone why cleanfire were so much hotter btu than last year. He told me they tested hotter this year. What sucks is the delivey is coming tomorow sept 9th at 2.00 pm.

Before you say or think it, yes I am weird. I couldn't read the package info on their website for the Andes Pellets, so I copied it, pasted it into a Word document and increased the size. While it is hard to read, it certainly looks like there is a range of BTUs, and the range starts with 8100 and goes to what looks like that 8360 number. So don't lose any sleep over this just yet.

Well maybe they will make a price adjustment for you... who knows.

I guess I'd be reluctant to order the Andes pellets since they originate in Chile... maybe that's why the change in the btu rating was made... when this stuff is made in another country thousands of miles from the US there can be all sorts of communication problems. Perhaps pellet sales first noticed the change when they started shipping and made the change right away.

I am getting 7960 for Cleanfire Hardwoods at the Ct zip and 8082 at NJ zip. NEWP's did improve there pellets so I can see how they tested higher. But why 2 BTU different values now???? They must have to update each area???

I know they test there own and provide a BTU value that is less than what the pellet mill provides. They may have had Andes BTU value listed and then updated with there actual tested BTU value. But I can wait to hear how they explain it though. Excusses???

IMO I think they are two different mills, or more making the cleanfire pellets for them, so it is hit or miss with a Private label.

Could be, But you would think CT would be getting the NH which has been slightly better than the NY plant. NY would or could go to both CT or NJ.

well not to rob your thread but if you look at pellet sales web page they have comfy cozy pellets. if you research that company there claim btu is not the same as pellet sales.. who would you believe?

Nothing like jumping on a company publicly before you have given them a chance to explain.

I think some of you are assuming the plants have way more consistancy than most do. Have you watched the NEWP video? every truck, every loader scoop will have different BTU value.

Good Seeing you at the Woodstock Fair.

Lots of folks looking to get good pellets this year. I talked to alot of people that will not be buying Big Box or Big internet pellet supplier.

Should we assume you guy know each other?

Pellet sale.com got back to me this morning with a call. They didnt want to respond to my email they said they felt better talking directly to me. I spoke with them and the guy told me they update the latest test periodicly. He said one bag may test at 8360 while another tests at 7980.He said this is normal and well within the spec of 5% deviation. I told him I understand that and you should put the BTU RANGE on your site for each pellet. I also told him if I had seen the 7980 instead of the 8360 I would have NEVER OF SPENT the xtra money on the andes. He said to take the pellets in if I am unhappy he will have them picked of and replaced with the cleanfires and will credit me back the $20 per ton each.He said the searched the globe for a good softwood pellet to sell and they werent having any luck domesticly so they are trying these andes from south america. He warned me the packaging sucks and those were his exaact words. I recvd them today and I will tell you the clear plastic bags the Andes are packed in are paper this kind of like saran wrap. I will keep you all posted how they burn when the weather turns.

8360 btu/lb x 2000lb = 16,720,000 btu / $259 = 64,555 btu/$

8000 btu/lb x 2000lb = 16,000,000 btu / $239 = 66,945 btu/$

Guess I'm not seeing where the 8360 btu/lb pellets are 'premium' or worth the extra money even if they were the full rated btu? You would actually get more btu for your money buying the lower btu/cheaper pellets.

No i am not. The packaging sucks 10 bags were broke and I paid a premium for a shittier pellet. Let the readers decide if it was fair or not. I dont have the room to sit on skids of pellets to see if they are good or not. I have to unload the skid and restack them so as far as sending them back I cant becuase they will be stacked already. Reasonable would have been them crediting me back the xtra $20 a ton. Reasonable would have been them putting a BTU rating with a range not advertise the TOP OF THE RANGE then a week later change it to the very bottom of the range. Reasonable would have been them telling the consumer you are paying more for a pellet that is packed in paper thin plastic bags.
So to answer your question NO I AM NOT CHANGING THE TITLE TO THIS THREAD

smwilliamson,

When I respond in that manner to my wife, I end up with areas of black and blue skin, BUT it is worth it.

Too funny!
