I have only cut a couple loads of wood in the last week. The water pump went out on the old delivery truck, so fixed that, we went to the fair, a couple car shows, and we went to Cave of the Mounds which is 50 degrees all year, even in the heat wave. The following pics are from Cave of the Mounds:

Thanks! Yes, that is the entrance to the cave. It was a limestone quarry and when they blasted the face off the side of the hill which the building is up against now, they discovered the cave. 1939, I believe.

As usual . . . great pics . . . thanks for sharing. Looks like an interesting place to visit.

Cool pics...reminds me of "Crystal Cave" here in Pa....I went when I was younger...thought it was amazing..maybe time to make another trip...

Nice shots and a great idea for a hot day. The last caves we were in were in the Dordogne region of France, near the famous Lascaux caves. It was 40C outside (about 100F) and the caves felt great. There were early cave paintings down there. Seems like people have been attracted to caves for a very long time.

Caves are cool (both literally and figuratively). Last one I was in was Luray Caverns in Virginia. A unique feature of this particular cave is the stalactite organ. Somebody a long time ago discovered that when a stalactite is struck just right, it resonates at a pitch that depends on its size. So then the search was on all through the cave to find the right stalactites and fine-tune them by sanding if needed to get the pitch just right (most did). Solenoid operated "strikers" were installed, and all connected back to an organ keyboard. I didn't actually see it played the day I was there, but I saw the keyboard and a number of the strikers, and I heard a recording. It's really pretty amazing. Rick

It is a really neat place to visit. Third time I've been there, since 1939! HA! It's fairly large too, the guided tour takes an hour. They also have hiking trails on the grounds that connect to the network of statewide trails. We haven't hiked on their trails yet, but plan to soon. Here is their website: http://www.caveofthemounds.com/

Amazing to think that the formations of art you see down there have been created naturally over the course of thousands of years in some cases. Thanks for that. It reminds I need to take the family to a cave.

Great pictures quads. Thanks. And I agree, this is the time of year to visit caves. Natural cooling.

That's great Quads!!!

Sure would be fun to go there!!!!

Nice pics. I was a tour guide for 8 summers at Howe Caverns in upstate NY. Never got much of a tan during the summer but it was a cool job:)

Howe Caverns are pretty cool too. There are some massive formations in there.

Was at Howe Caverns just today to check out a possible school field trip in the fall. They have expanded with a ropes course and zip lines. Had a great time.
