Pine Seasoning

Does pine season faster than other woods? Came into a whole bunch of the stuff and was just wondering. It was all cut this summer and has been laying there. Not split yet though. Live trees as well.

I think I recall reading somewhere that split and stacked, pine can season in 6 to 8 months. I'd have to search the forums, though, to be sure.

Part of that certainly depends on the variety of pine. In the last couple years, I've picked up several small loads of pine (pine bark beetle is killing lots of pine in this area). Some of it, okay, most of it is quite light and seasons (and burns) fairly quickly. Some of it, though, is much heavier, takes longer to season, and burns longer and hotter. And some is very "pitchy" almost like fatwood (have gotten much of that, thankfully - it smokes alot).

I ain't a botantist or an arborist, 'tho, so I can't tell you which is which.
