One of our fireplaces is a brick and mortar fireplace with exterior brick chimney.
Problem is, the fire box is HUGE! Like almost 6' long and 4' tall.
The damper runs the entire length of the firebox.
Can I shrink the size of the fire box by leaving the damper alone, but building in the sides of the fire box (e.g., with fireplace brick & fireplace mortar)?
The fireplace will continue to be used old school... open fires.
