was there a reason you could not use the same pipe going up the chimney from the gas insert? Just curious as we have talked about getting rid of the gas insert and adding a pellet insert.

There is no chimney. It's a fabricated hearth with a direct vent out the wall.

Westcafe,

The venting used for gas devices is not to code for a pellet stove.

So at the very least pellet vent would have to be run up that vent in your case.

gottcha....so we couldn't remove the vent pipe for the propane stove and just use the lined chimney? We would have to run 3" pellet stove vent pipe up the liner? Thanks for the info. We don't have vent piping for our pellet stove in the basement it is just connected to a single lined flue.

Propane vent pipe is "B" vent, and Pellet stove pipe is "PL" vent. Not sure about a lined chimney install. I know the guy I bought the insert from only had a couple of feet going up his chimney with a thimble that it stuck through within the chimney. Not exactly sure what you'll need in your situation.
