Propane tank for expansion?[air or gas use inside?]

I found that my 30 gal. propne tank works good for expansion tank,only run 16Lbs. at 200degrees. But someone said if I use a type of gas to charge it be better than air? Does much oxigine get into water if no air is added to tank? Some ideas would help?
