Just installed the new Summit yesterday and enjoyed my first true overnighter last night, very impressed with this stove so far. I want to thank all members for thier input and advice. I think I GOT a pretty sweet deal on the stove....$1800 delivered with the fan, at a local stove shop. I'm sure I will need plenty of advice in the years to come, and I'll keep coming back here on a regular basis. I can't get enough of all the useful information here on this forum. I can't wait to give my old POS VC Encore the boot (target practice) I just wished I would have switched stoves sooner.
Thanks again--cheers

Nice, congratulations. That was quick. Be sure to post some pictures with it burning.

Stove porn!!! (Thanx BG) BTW, ANY Hardwood to be had in this area?

Unless you somehow got a bad stove that is not installed correctly, I am going to hazard a guess and say it is operator error. This stove CRANKS out the heat and is easily capable of 10-12 hr burns. Do you have seasoned wood? What is chimney set up like. Post some pics and ask some questions on here so we can help. This is a great stove trust me, something is not right with your set up.

Hello there, we need to talk as I question my Summit ( do a search for my posts and feel the pain) but am begining to get a feel for it (maybe) so what is the problem, plenty of help on here. The Summit is a good stove (I truly believe that) so there is help available.

I figuared I would get some replies about how great this stove is suppose to work here is a short set up picture. this stove was installed by a dealer that stated it would run us out of our house.installed in existing fireplace area in finished basementchimney liner installed by them, upstairs thermostat shows 68 degrees furnance always kicks on(cold up there) wont run me anywhere near out of basement little alone get heat upstairs and the dealer he dont even return calls or have any suggestions although he would say I want to make you happy! well it aint happened yetOh yeah while im venting! I even suggested you want to make me happy then lets go with the buck91 that was two weeks ago Im still awaiting any kind of an answer

I expected Old Spark to chime in and I am glad he did. Happy to hear you are getting a feel for the Summit. As for myself, I can easily get the house up to 78F (2600sq/f) and likely more if I wanted to. My wife and me both work, I load the stove at 630a.m. and come back to a large bed of HOT coals at 5pm. I know I can get even longer out of it if I wanted to.

Calm down a little musicman, no idea what you are talking about now with the buck91. First things first, is your wood seasoned? if so what type and for how long?

A couple of things I was doing wrong

Not running it hot enough, I leave the fan off until I hit 5 to 6 hundred degrees on the stove top.
Splits a little too big in some cases but running it hotter helps there also
Adjusting the air too much, a little goes a long ways if you have good draft and dry wood.

This stove gives off "soft" heat so I run it more than the old stove to keep a constant heat in the house.

wood is mixed, oak, walnut, cherry, maple all were dead and and down for couple of years.this stove just eats wood for the amount of heat it gives.i have to load it about every two hours when i am home when I get up in the mornings I will have coals but the heat and there

whoa.. every two hours seems way outta whack. My Jotul 602 gave me longer burns than that.

The Summit is the size of the T6, correct? How much air are you giving it when burning?

I may be wrong but it sounds like you are burning what we call "punk" wood. Wood that has been laying down in the forrest for a couple years is not seasoned, more than likly rotten, it will burn but you cannot expect to get much heat out of it. Get yourself some truly seasoned wood one way or another. This is what I do, start a fire with kindling with the air control on full high, once going well add 2-3 peices of split wood and get that going well with air between 3/4-1/2, once well established add larger peices for long burns and slowly turn the air down to 1/4-closed. I know I have set up a good long burn when I have great secondary action from moving the air down low. I usally go through this procedure over the corse of an hour and will usally get 10-12 hours of really good heat. You need better wood, it is not the stove.

I run the blower constantly trying to keep the heat coming out I cant believe that a stove of this size cant make me sweat! my cousin has an old buck 80 and uses the same wood as I do as we usually cut our wood together and he heats a bi-level house and his heat dont kick on and his stove puts it out I dont know where the 10 to 12 hour burns come in or is it that people have coals at those hour, that dont seem to me as getting 10-12 hour burn time like they say

10 to 12 hour burn time would be useable heat IMHO, do you have any temp sensors on the stove, I do not run my fan all the time any more, the stove heats up better with out it, I use it for a really hot fire.

Can't speak for the insert, which I am guessing is what you have. As for myself, yes, A good hot bed of coal after that many hours with stove top temps still around 300-400. The coals will still give off enough heat to heat the home. Are you acheving secondary burns? how high are you leaving the ait open? Any chance you can post some pics of the wood and your stove?
