Quad 1200i exhaust blower failure rate

Hey All,
Had my Quad 1200i since 2005. It runs full time all winter and is the main heat source for the house.
I am getting ready to replace the exhaust blower motor for the 2nd time. First change was about 4 years ago. Is the life expectancy on these things only 4 to 5 years or is there something I could be doing to make them last longer?
I clean weekly (full vac, remove baffles, scrape, prod and poke to get as much ash out as possible) but am thinking maybe there is more I can do? AFAIK the motor is sealed and there is no oiling involved. Both replacements were due to loud whining noise which I am attributing to bearing failure. 1st replacement was original Quad part, and the second one on the way is also an OEM unit.

Feel your pain. Same issues here. Not sure if any replacement will be any better but I have not found one yet.

I would recommend using a harman combustion blower motor, all modern harman's use the same combustion blower, it should be considerably less expensive and as reliable if not more reliable than the quads combustion motor

I would love to try something like that but I'm just not too sure on what it might do to the control board or other stove functions. I believe it was Dexter that recommended this one for a replacement which does have the ports for oil. Have not ordered it yet but may give it a try someday. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000W3Q4QO. they are both 3,000 rpm C-frame motors (harman vs. quad). the one from amazon is oilable, but only because it uses bushings. the harman motor has sealed ball bearings. I am in charge of stocking parts at the quad/harman dealership i work for and i only stock harman combustion blowers for all 120v stoves, quad and harman and breckwell and country stove and enviro, i do stock the quad AE motors but those are a completely different beast altogether. Maybe im wrong but so far i havent had any complaints or issues to date.

I bought the replacement in the link. Sill in the box though and I am on yr 5 with my Comb blower.

But.... I do use 3-in-1 oil (blue can SAE-20) on the sealed bearings. On both the combustion and convection blower. At least twice yearly. Still look, sound, and run good.

The one on Amazon was Cheap. And I am selling the Quad this Summer. So in hindsight, I could have saved the $$$, but at the time, I only had the Quad. So I have all kinds of spares.

Agreed. Compressed air on the outside fan workings every time I vac out the firebox is keeping it nice and clean and hopefully prolonging its life.

Thanks everyone for your input. Will try to spend a little extra time cleaning in and around the motor in the future. That replacement you linked to on amazon is about a 1/3 of the price of the OEM model. May pick one up as a spare. Thanks Again!

part # 3-21-08639 for harman comb. blower. some modification are necessary but usually only minor, biggest modification was putting one on a old non AE mt vernon but it worked and turned out great.

The replacement for the exhaust blower is fairly standard. They are all approx 85 CFM and approx 1.0 amp

Maybe we can find a better and of course cheaper convection blower from CSH Incorporated?
