Question on Lopi Clearance

Manual indicates a 10" or 18" rear clearance depending on the connector used.

If, behind the stove, there is a one ince space w/tile over durarock (protected surface) can the clearance be reduced any further?

What if the wall studs are pulled out and replaced with metal w/durarock over top?
