It's not Ohio buckeye, it's horse chestnut - aesculus hippocastanum. It's a European native widely planted in New England. Looks great when it blooms in the spring, but very prone to various leaf diseases which cause ugly browning by late summer. Seed germination requires 3 months of cold temperatures, then warmth. You can use the refrigerator or place in a pot outside for the winter. They will sprout in the spring if the squirrels don't get them.
