Death Valley?
Or a place soon to be nick named Death Valley....
I know in Vegas they don't consider it to be "hot" until it's over 110. LMAO. They close the pools if it drops below 80, too cold. But, I can say that it's soooooooo dry, that I bet you do freeze getting out of a pool there at 80.

Death Valley is just in the 90's about now. Went through there one time and was real pleased that the gas gauge was broken on the rental car and didn't figure that out until the point of no return.

Where were ya Jake? El Paso? ;lol

Warm had it . . . was out in Vegas for a fire safety conference about two weeks back. Final day I rented a car and checked out Death Valley . . . liked it a lot better than Vegas since I don't gamble, drink much or go to shows.

Around Vegas it was in the low 100s all week.

I never could switch over to West Coast time so I would get up around 4 or 5 a.m. . . . there are some . . . uh . . . interesting ladies out at that time of day on or near the Strip.

Speaking of which . . . on the way to Death Valley I gassed up at the Alien Area 51 Bar, Convenience Store and Brothel . . . which advertised free tours. Opted to keep driving after gassing up and grabbing a Coke.

Left Vegas richer than I left despite not putting a penny into a slot machine . . . ended up winning $1,000 -- one of three winners drawn at the Expo. Even got my pic taken with one of those giant fake checks.

Skipped drinking, gambling and the brothel. What a waste of a plane ticket. ;lol

More pics . . .

View from Dante's Peak . . . and other interesting stops in the park.

Did a bit of geocaching which brought me to a ghostown graveyard in Rhyolite.

But the Conference was really good . . . crazy thing is . . . it was cheaper for me to fly out to Vegas then to go to Boston and get a hotel room for five nights when this Conference was in Beantown a few years back . . . hotels in Vegas in June are pretty cheap.

I kinda miss meeting family and friends out there every year for 20 years for the National Finals Rodeo in December. Fun to watch the reaction of people walking into the casinos seeing a sea of western hats and hearing George Strait on the speakers. Every night somebody would come and drag me out of the casino at the Golden Nugget to go to the rodeo. >>

The next time they have it there, make the run down to the Hoover Dam and go down into it. Impressive.

I LOVE Vegas. Rode my MC from Boston to Vegas twice, mid summer, damn near heat stroked out both times, still had a blast. That was back when route 93 ran right across the top of the Hoover Dam, guess it's bypassed by a bridge now.

My favorite time to be out in Vegas is the wee hours of the morning, can't beat the people watching! You can sit back and pick out the winners, loosers, the guy that has to tell his wife their pension is gone, and the ladies of the evening. I could sit on a street side bench for hours out there and never get bored.

Never hit death valley, primarily because both times it was 110+ in the desert without looking for the warmer places. Stopped at a gas station and sat in the shade while watching the people jump back in shock every time they grabbed the black metal door handle to go inside. It was in the sun, just about sizzled the skin off your palm when you grabbed it. Hmmmm. Maybe liquid cooled door handles....that's it! Early retirement is just around the corner for me now!

Great Pics! thanks for sharing.

Mostly played blackjack. Just me and the dealer at a table around two in the morning at the Nugget and I said "I want to play me some poker. But I bet there are a few locals sitting across the street at the Horseshoe just waiting for a guy like me to walk in.".

Dealer said "You are up around a grand right where you are sitting and you are right, they are just waiting for you. Just sit there and keep playing.". ;lol

Two years ago, we spent hours on a black jack table at the golden nugget. Best time I ever had playing the game, took two hours to finish exactly where I started, I consider it a win. ;lol
I swear our primary dealer was Norm MacDonald, he was a riot and had the horse shoe ring to boot. Good time

I love the Nugget. They would comp my room and meals and once a trip the blackjack pit boss would pop for a private dining room for my friends and family for a dinner. My sister in law asked me one night when she was looking at her steak, "Just how much DO you lose here.".

Told her I didn't and that is why they wanted me to stay in the place and not go out to eat. To give them a chance to get it back. ;lol

Now that one night I took a shot at craps... <>

Vegas is too crowded and crazy for me. Reno isn't as bad, but really enjoy Pahrump the most .............

In FL with mum. There's a fireplace here but it weighs about 20 pounds and plugs into the wall. Lol. Add the 85% humidity to the 95 temp and it makes for a good day to sit in the shade with a cold beer.
