Our local Walmart is playing non stop Christmas tunes two days after Halloween!!! Now I'm no scrouge but personally don't get in spirit till after Thanksgiving. Almost Burns me out by the time Christmas gets here.

Reason number 16 why i try and avoid walmart whenever possible.

We saw some Christmas trees up already today.

They had trees up & decorated 1 month ago here >:-(

After I posted the vid I wondered who would be the first to notice. Christmas is for the kids and great memories with family.

I think Walmarts are trying to jump start by actually doing a "black friday premiere" sale this weekend, so it's part of the theme. Shopping hysteria come early!

I think they do it to get you to start xmas shopping early.....screw that.... I will wait till the last minute...I work well under pressure... :cheese:

LOL I'm that guy....you know the one on Xmas Eve at the mall trying to find the Mrs something.

The local oldies station starts playing xmas carols on Thanksgiving non stop until xmas day.

Note...you know you are getting old when they play the music you listened to as a teenager on the oldies station now.

I'm with ya on that Gamma. I like to wait until I am really in the Christmas spirit. The last week before Christmas. I use to wait until the 23rd and 24th every year, loved it. Now the wife does most of the shopping a little at a time for the kids as she finds things on sale. Hurts the pocket book a little less that way. I am glad she does it. I still always go out the last few days before Christmas to do the shopping I have to do. That's when I am really in the spirit.

I love Christmas and the holiday season . . . but my steadfast rule has always been the time for the decorations, songs, etc. is after Thanksgiving . . . apparently the retailers never got that memo and now it's all about making a buck and getting as much money as possible as soon as you can . . .

Just one reason my wife and I have done away with the whole Christmas commercialism . . . it sounds strange, but about two or three years ago we decided to stop giving each other and other friends and family members gifts and cards . . . and told them in advance we didn't need or want anything either. Now instead of worrying about what to give folks we spend the season enjoying the music, get togethers, etc. . . . I suspect this wouldn't work for many folks, especially families with young children . . . but it definitely works for us . . . it's much less stressful and the season is so much more meaningful when it isn't all about getting the perfect gift or getting the best deal.

That's really great...I don't know how many gifts that I have gotten that I didn't need or want and then you have to act happy that you got it. If I want something I'll go buy exactly what I want. Give some money to charity or donate your time...K.I.S.S.!

Jake, we can agree on this one. And how about those garden seed catalogs that used to come in January? Now we get some before Thanksgiving!

I've always said that we tend to agree on most things . . . maybe 98% of the stuff . . . just not the best way to split wood with a hydraulic splitter or which is better: blonds or redheads. ;)

which is better: blonds or redheads

Easy answer...the really hot one!

It seems like everyone is starting Xmas a month early this year. Hallmark channel is running nonstop Xmas movies, all the stores have XMas decorations up (a freidn of mine works at Target and when the wife and I walked in on Aturday he was very happy to point out and make fun of the WAl Mart XMas music...and then when I walked around the corner of shoes heading towards toys and electronics I saw all the XMas trees there for sale, so I went back and made fun of him too!

I see more and more lights popping up all over the place at people's houses, have not yet seen my first car top tree though.

I'm the crazy fool who has his tree up, lit, and decorated. Have many strands of LED icicles hanging around door and have started watching my massive collection of Xmas films...Did it all on Sunday. I have a lot of Xmas spirit.

no lame sweater...but I do have a few sets "A Christmas Story" PJs that I wear frequently. "You'll shoot yer eye out kid". Like the Star Wars saga, most of the challenges of life can be explained in Christmas Story analogies.

I wouldn't even put up a tree at all if we didn't have kids. Our daughter does all the tree decorating because she is the one who likes it the most. I don't like all the useless gift giving at the holidays or sending cards to everyone under the sun. My older brother and I decided years ago to not give gifts to each other, works for both of us. The same goes for my husband and I as well. My husband's family finally started drawing names, so we only had to buy one gift instead of one for everybody.

A couple of years ago we bought the kids one more expensive item that they had to share for a present instead of a whole bunch of things that were only played with for awhile and then set aside. There weren't any complaints and that is what we have done since. I would rather just spend the season visiting with family and enjoying Christmas day than feeling all stressed about gift giving and buying.

And there is nothing wrong with getting seed catalogs in the fall, if you have a greenhouse that you grow in all year round. :)

We do not subscribe to the "over commercialized" version of Xmas. I for one, do not fret about gifts in the slightest. I do not buy gifts for the sake of it. If I think of something that I think is a good gift, I will give it. We, as a family, sing xmas songs, and watch xmas films, and make candies, cookies, have our friends and their kids over for gingerbread house making (annual tradition),and do that whole luminaries in the driveway thing on xmas eve. The funniest part, I am not christian. We just celebrate to celebrate. I will wear my Santa hat starting on Thanksgiving Day, until New Years. I will listen to "We Need a Little Christmas" about 10,000 times, and Bing Crosby's Melakalekemaka (sp?) just as many times, and love every minute of every play. Merry Xmas my friends....Merry Xmas.

I hear ya...we stopped buying large gifts years ago. Now we just get each other something small but meaningful. Other than my parents we only get something small for my BIL and SIL. I stopped the Xmas card thingy too. I would rather stop in and visit with relatives/friends or call them to wish them a happy holiday.

I stopped Christmas cards in 1968. On the long flight overseas I did one for everybody I knew. And mailed them from the APO in country. It passed the time, didn't cost me any postage, I didn't have to write a bunch of letters and it gave everybody my new mailing address to send me goodies.
