Don't know if you've burned any yet, but it will "pop" in the stove sometimes, might startle ya. 
I've been using dead Sass trunks to prop pallets up off the ground, supposed to be rot-resistant.

Burned a little last year. It did pop quite a bit. Cant comment on the Rot resistance of it
