With the stove having 2 options for exhaust routing, my question is what circumstances should the top exhaust be used vs. the convection exhaust? I found out by error today, that the top exhaust will cause the stove to run much hotter. Just about pinned the thermostat within 20 minutes of loading. No air intake change, just forgot to flip the baffle after loading.

According to the manual the updraft mode (bypass open) is for when burning less seasoned wood, draft is poor, or extra heat is needed. For long burns in this mode the secondary flap on the side should be closed. For more efficient burning, use the horizontal mode (bypass closed) and the secondary air flap open.
