Came along this mom sitting on her nest. I was clearing brush from a trail and she has nested at the base of a locust right beside the trail. I was amazed how close I got before she spooked. She only went about 15 feet, I snapped a quick shot of the nest and left the area. I'll give her a month before I venture in this area again. Very cool birds.

Yummy yummy, ruffed grouse make a fine eating bird. Amazing how many eggs she had. I would have expected the eggs to be a darker more camouflaged color.
 
She sure is well camouflaged...nice pics!!!
