A friend just bought a used Russo #2 wood/coal stove and on the back it says clearance of 36" required. Can this be reduced by using a shield and if so what can he use to get it as close to the wall as possible. This is going in a small porch so space is limited. Can a piece of sheetmetal be used spaced 1" from the wall? If so, how close can the stove be to the sheetmetal? This installation is in MA and the requirements he got from the town list concrete blocks or asbestos board as shield meterial. Thanks for your time.
