Just came back from camping and some obnoxious campers got booted.. They were located next to my friends from NH and they texted me that they were offered the wood from the obnoxious campers getting the boot as they felt bad they had kept them awake.. How often does one go camping for a week and come home with twice as much wood that they left with? LOL gotta love that!!

That was a nice gesture. I often give away my leftover wood from camping to a camping family that looks like they would appreciate it. The ones in a tent buying the wood from the camp store and only burning 2 sticks at a time to save money, or the ones with no fire.

I hear that and those left had wood so it came home with me.. My son gave his wood to a large family (a doctor and wife with 5 kids).. This is a resort campground and tends to have people that can afford camping..

Well Ray, sometimes you get the wood wherever you can. A shame about the obnoxious campers though.

I agree Dennis and took advantage and had the help of a 7 yr. old who LOVES to work.. Never seen a kid so excited to work! Of course I paid him a dollar for his efforts and he never asked for a penny.. All in all it was a good time and the people that were kept awake will be staying here in Mass. again in August and my NH friend (we met them many years ago at this campground) is a very good carpenter and wants to finish the hearth trim work in oak for me.. Life has its surprises eh?

I am not bring a stick back!

A campsite down in Cornwall where we have been before lets you have as much wood as you want for campfires!

Never tried bring it home though ;-)

I've left wood with other campers or just left it behind.

Who brings home pine ? :)

Yes it's a nice place and I also enjoyed Wawaloam for it's large grassy sites and decent rates...

found a nice source for de-barked maple slabs earlier this summer. i have since bundled some of it up for sale at the local campgrounds. looking at the other campfire sales, the cheapest was $3 and the most expensive was $5...for about a basketball sized bundle of splits-3"-4". kinda chinsey, i thought. so, my bundles go for 2.50 and they are the size of a beach ball...about as heavy as you want to lift something into/out of a trunk of a car. and clean. if this works out to my advantage, i'll approach the campgrounds (next year) to see if they would sell the wood on site.
i can't see charging alot for campfire wood. just might deprive some kid of having a campfire every night.

I remember going there as a kid . . . it was set up with activities from sun up into the evening . . . today my idea of camping is 180 degrees different from this sort of campground -- I go where the only planned activities where I am is what I plan . . . but I can understand the attraction of a place like this for families with children to be sure.

Fishing, Hoseshoes, boating, drinking (occasionally) and relaxing! Of course this is onluy happening when the kids are asleep!

Frankly I'd prefer a little less myself but it's good to have water and electric on site.. When we camp in VT. we like the state parks with the lean-to's but no water or electric.. I cook on a wood campfire for supper and coleman stove for breakfast.. With power available I bring a 4.0 cu. ft. fridge and it does much better than ice and a cooler.. Saves money on ice and the food stays cool and dry..
