Hello

Please reply to this post if you setup a Wood Pellet Stove Web Cam!!

A question came up in this forum on How to set up your pellet stove cam to monitor anywhere in the world!

I did the following:

You must have a computer with a continuous connection to the web from ISP and a web cam. Wireless Web CAM is the best. Make sure it is an IP cam with USB connection and not a TV camera with RCA jacks

Example: Wireless IP Web cam http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003O0CFXI...e=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B003O0CFXI

1. Set the OS option so the hard drive will never sleep if it is a newer version of windows.

2. Download YAWCAM - Yet Another Web Cam software for free.
URL >> http://www.yawcam.com/download.php

3. Install YAWCAM on your computer in the administrator account

4. Check for an open port in your ISPs firewall.
Download and install PortDetective for free - makes it a little easier. :)
YAWCAM default port is 8888 or check 8080

5. If you have a wireless router then set up a port redirect to the computer with the web cam
Example:
Computer port
192.168.1.101 8888

Type in cmd.exe in the windows run or search to bring up a DOS box
In the DOS box type
> IPCONFIG
This will tell you your computer's IP address for the Router's redirect configuration.

6. Now Select the cam device in YAWCAM

7. In YAWCAM Select HTTP, Stream and Motion
See your working CAM as in 1st pic below

8. In the browser URL, Type in the ISP's assigned IP address to your house with a semicolon and the port number
ex: http://24.85.77.222:8888

Bingo

Bonus points (So you do not have to remember the IP numbers!) URL >> http://www.no-ip.com/
Setup a free account on NO-IP's web site to pick a free domain and redirect HTTP requests to you Web CAM
Ex. [email protected]

I can't see you!!!

Hello tjnamtiw

I set up a test and got it working. However my computer is not close enough to the pellet stove. So I have to purchase a wireless web cam.

Did you try setting it up?

I'm in the same boat as you are. I need a wireless one because my computers are not near the stoves. It would be a great tool for newcomers to see how long it takes to start up and the variations in flame height. Those are two questions that KEEP coming up. Also, for people to see other brands running would be very informative. I guess I'll give Amazon or newegg some money!

I've been wanting to tinker with a Security/Pet Cam for awhile. Never thought of using it to keep an eye on the pellet stove. Your post got me looking on geek.com, and I found a nice wireless pan/tilt night vision camera. Hopefully it will arrive for the weekend (who wants to rake leaves when there is a new toy to play with).

Carl

What would be the purpose of the webcam? Why would you need to look at the stove while you are not home?

Hello

With the web cam set up on the stream port (default is 8081) you can see if the fire is active and getting enough air. It would also be good on those below freezing days to check and see if it is running ok so the pipes do not freeze.

Also at times where you want to turn it on before you come home, there is an internet thermostat.

See http://www.alpinehomeair.com/viewproduct.cfm?productID=453062644&gclid=CLSp-qnvkaUCFQo65QodD0bbQA for the guy who has everything!!!

It also works with the iPhone, Droid and Storm cell phones !!

Hello

It is also possible to use the cheaper CCTV wireless cameras with this mini video web server

IP Video 9100A Plus Network Video Server (Black) - Broadcast Video over the Web without a PC!
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BLK-9100A-PLUS-N&cat=VID

It looks like it may not have the option to take snapshots every few seconds like the ip cam just live video which used more bandwidth.
That is a quick observation without having the software manual in front of me. So please tell me if it can do that??

Hello

I just did some extended research and found that the software I got only works with USB web cams that have a short wire. So the way to go these days is a wireless IP Network web cam. These slick cams transmit to a base that plug into your wireless router and have an embedded Web Server and pull a dynamic ip address!! They also have infrared LEDs for night viewing!! Incredible for only $50 to $100 bucks. There are also weather proof models. This means no computer needed except for the initial configuration!! They also have pan and tilt using buttons displayed in your web browser!! Some even have a mini DVR and motion detection with email alert!! Whew, what a cool toy to view your Wood Pellet Stove by moving the cam from work or wherever on your iPhone !!!

This pan and tilt web cam works with your iPhone!!

Hello

I just learned that the software called "Blue Iris" is the best software on the Net for setting up and using wireless Network IP Webcams. Especially when it comes to recording "Things that go bump in the Night" >> http://blueirissoftware.com/ and multiple web cams using the same IP address.

Also here is some really good web cams to use with it.
