I have a new Hampton h300 and when I light it I get a showering of burnt newspaper and ash. This happens for the first five minutes or so until the stove is hot. The snow was littered with fluffy pieces of burnt ash which I assume is the newspaper and bark I use to start my fire. We have 12ft of metalbestos stovepipe. Is this normal?

Are you starting your fires with the door cracked open and using the top down fire starting method?

That's why I won't use paper anymore. Try Super Cedar starters.

I do crack the door till the fire is roaring. I don't use top down fire.
