Is the flu, etc really bad where you are?

I just read in the news that Boston declared a public health emergency over the flu - 10x the number of confirmed cases as last year.

Our whole house got the shot but even so we have all been sick with something... It seems like we have been a sick house for 6 weeks solid here. My twins have both had 3 ear infections in a row, I had some bad cold before Christmas, my wife had a bout of bronchitis. Her doctors office says they cant keep up with the sick calls. One of my buddies had his 2 year old get pneumonia in Dec and it seems like half my office has been ill at some point in the last month.

Yeah, lot of people around work, friends and DH has had something since around Christmas and he's still coughing. I'm not one for hand sanatizers and stuff (MRSA is just an average bug that ended up resistant to antibotics because of exposure to them...I wonder what all those sanatizers are going to create), but I feel like I need to wear a mask and gloves anywhere I go now, lol.

the stories my wife would bring home about MRSA when she still worked in the hospital  Antibacterial soap/cleaners are not allowed in our house.

We do keep alcohol hand sanitizer by the baby changing table and regular hand soap at every sink however.

Can't say as I've heard of anyone sick around here and I've been in the hospital visiting my mother every day for the past month+. I've had some serious noggin pressure the last week which I believe is sinus related. Won't go away but doesn't get worse..

I was healthy as heck just two weeks ago. I've been sick since last wednesday. absolutely miserable. I was around some people with flu right before i got sick, and i'm told my symptoms are similar to theirs. Mine just seems like the worst cold I've ever had. If that makes it the flu, then so be it.

I work in the financial district in Boston, something swept through the place a few weeks back and everyone seemed sick. Most people on my floor seem healthy now, the chorus of coughs has died down mostly. My family all got flu shots and no one has gotten it yet, but I ride the subway to work, my wife is a teacher, and my son is in daycare. We're prime targets, which worries me because my wife is very pregnant(due Feb 1st) and I really hope she doesn't catch the flu. Not to mention I'm worried about bringing a bug home once the little one is born.

    I'm stayin' home.
Seriously don't go too many places, but haven't noticed anybody with cold/flu symptoms.

I work in the health care industry. Mostly elderly, and luckily almost all of them get
a flu shot. I also get one, but I see alot of flu like symtoms in other areas so I like to stay immunized.
Its very bad in this area of PA.

Unfortunately, my mother is in a nursing home. A few weeks ago the entire place was on lock down, quarantined. There was hardly a soul in the place that didn't have the flue. It sent my mom to the hospital for a week. I wasn't sure she was going to make it but she did.

Sorry to hear that Steve. I'm sure she'll be ok. Influenza is hard on the elderly for sure.

Both the wife and I got flu shots in early December. We both had a flu two weeks ago. It was two days spent mainly horizontally either shivering or sweating and a dry cough that made the ribs hurt.

I am about at wits end here. The kids were finally over their ear infections then the DAY before my wife and I go away for the weekend they get a stomach bug! While we away my MIL calls to say my son is vomiting. Great. Then of course I get it and spend one day of our trip in bed nauseous. Ugh. My wife was not pleased. Today we get home and my son is getting better but my daughters stomach bug progressed to a 102 fever and cough.

    It just doesn't end !!!!!!

Dammit I'm getting off this thread before you guys get me sick........

Spreading like wildfire the past two weeks, so far it hasn't hit our house (violently knocks on wood!)

Same up here Jeremy. Hospitals are having a hard time keeping up. Glad I work mainly outside. Seems tp be hitting the office crowd hard. Interesting spike in your graph. Viruses are pretty good at adapting it would seem.
