we can also get permits to remove wood from state forests. I believe the limit is ten cords (who's counting?), but there are rules for the wood. It must be downed. So as far as what kind of wood you get, that depends on what has blown down & where you look. I also think when you apply for a permit they give you a info on what types of trees to take (you may take dead standing trees too). It is a great idea and helps clear up some of the fuel for forest fires. I haven't had to get any wood this way, but I'm considering it. There's just too much locally to deal with right now.
