I have a 8 inch SS liner round...if u go by the template in manual its seems very short..I haven't trimmed yet...

I have a 6" liner and cut it to the recommended size. It seems to do a great jib. I lent it to my brother that has a larger liner... I think it is 8" and he used my soot eater head. After he was done, he hired a chimney sweep and the guy said the liner was clean. He still charged him, but at least I know it works.

So, I don't think it is too critical as to where you trim it. It rattles around in the chimney pretty good as you are cleaning.
