Hello --

We live in Atlanta (not the Frozen North). Nevertheless, we'd like to convert the 30 year old factory-built gas/wood burning fireplace in our living room into a wood burning, heat producing unit. From reading these forums, it is clear that figuring out the best solution is not something we should attempt ourselves. Any recommendations for a reliable person in the Atlanta area that we might contact for guidance?

Thanks!

Angie's list would be an excellent start. I use that site religiously and it saves so many headaches and bad contractor issues. https://my.angieslist.com/AngiesList/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/angieslist/MyAngie/

You can search here to find a certified chimney professional to take a look at what you have. If you only want to burn an occasional fire for fun, then there is a good chance that the fireplace that you have will do the job just fine.
