Our hard hats at work break all the time (when ever they get dropped), we just replace the entire liner, they are inexpensive and should be available at any safety supply place. When that ratchet thing breaks I don't think you can fix them.

Mine did the same. I used electrical tape on the band to keep it together for the past 2 years. It is adjusted to fit. Aggravating, but still decent helmet.
