Still Burning?

Unfortunately, we still are, but only at night, it got up to 66 deg with us today, the hottest day of the year so far, where I live
Thats hot when you have the polar bear genes.
I heard the US has had a very hot dry summer, is it true?
In Scotland it has rained solid for nearly 3 months now.
I get paranoid on the odd occasion that the Sun comes out and worry if it stops raining! Would have to get the factor 1000 sun blocker out!
No wonder alcohol and firewood is such a prestigious commodity here!

For me in the northeast, July had a few hot days, but this summer has been rather nice. This is the coolest August I have ever experienced.

Here in Northern Ohio, we are way under our normal rainfall and had almost 20 days in July over 90° (in a row) breaking a record that was 70 yrs old... Hot, Humid, and Dry

Angus, if it helps. Stove is still about 100 from last night . It'll be much hotter in about an hour or so.

O for some nice cool weather and some rain...ha We are normally very hot and dry, but have set constant records for both this year.
We are enjoying a cold front right now and its still 78f outside at 9:30pm.

Very warm and Dry march-july, So far August, has been humid with lots of heavy rain with hot sunny days between. I dont think i have ever run my A/C so often during the summer. not complaining, but starting to get ready for the cool dry air of fall.

Still burning in the evenings here too Angus, never had such a wet miserable summer.
We are in the northwest and usually get the weather over from the States about a week later, not happened so far, still waiting for some sunshine.
Gives us an excuse to fireup the stove, always makes me feel better with the stove going , single malt too of course.

You are toooo funny Angus! Some of us would give our left _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ for your kind of weather!

Angus, how do you get your wood to season over there with the wet weather? Inside storage?

My wife is German, and they have hot summers there. Many years ago when we were not long married, I talked on the phone to my wife's parents and told them that I couldnt go outside because the thermometer was touching 60 deg., they thought it was because it was cold, I informed them it was too hot, they were like

Here is how we store it, below,the roof is the most important factor, but also it has to face the south west (incase the sun comes out) but mainly to catch the prevailing wind which comes from the south west, we get plenty wind.
I once had a stack facing the east with a decent roof, but it just got wetter and went mouldy within 6 months!

Hot and humid...little raine here in western Mass for most of the summer. . Great for growing tomatoes and corn. Last week or so couple of drenching rain storms. Last night it dipped down to 60...we may have an outside fire tonight in the fire pit. We have stacked 3 cords of wood in the past couple of weeks and have 2 dry cords in the barn. We are ready. New Castine coming 9/14 & will be installed that day with new stainless liner. I went out looking for a small fiskar axe today. Only could find the 25 and 27, I need it smaller, for me and for splitting the kindling. Course I have time to order online. Getting to be great weather for bicycle riding these hills - can't do it in the 90 degree days. We get great color and lots of leaf peepers in these foothills.

Been 80 - 90 F here for most of the month. Rain interspersed with humid days (glad I top covered all of the firewood as I stacked it).

Going down to 55ish here tonight. Will not load the stoves, damned if I'll do that in August.

I've started cleaning the indoor plan stands, so I can start returning the house plants to their respective stations in the house.

Won't be long now. The oak trees are dropping acorns already, and leaves are coming down.

Heard the potential forecast for January & February here, and have ordered more firewood to be prepared.

I couldn't even imagine having a fire! We have had one of the hottest summers on record in the mid west. August has been a little milder but still in the 80's and 90's. June and July were like a typical August and August has been like a typical June. I do not think we have had a total of a 1/2 inch of rain in the past three months, that is a total for ALL 3 months. The trees have really taken a hit and are very stressed.
I processed about 5-6 cords for next year in the sweltering heat this summer, lost 10lbs and I am ready for fall!

Wow, only 1/2" in 3 months!
I m not exactly sure what we ve had, but I heard it was about 20 inches since the beggining of June

No, I usually place the rounds at the front, they will season better than at the back, I do a lot of splitting with a tractor hydraulic log splitter, about 90% is split

We have had a record hot summer here near Boston. I cant remember a year with such a stretch of 90s weather. AC was on almost non-stop from June till the heat finally broke a week or so ago. We had heatwave weather even back in April.

Days in the 80s feel cool now.

OTOH, 2 years ago we had a spring summer as wet as you are living through now Angus, my basement almost turned into a swimming pool.
