Question:

Hi all, Love your site, Very informative. I'am a new woodstove owner , a century#s126. Could you please give me some info on stove blacking ie; How it is used , & when it should be used . Is it needed to help maintain the stove or just for looks ? Your help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Answer:

It keeps the stove from rusting and makes it look better . Most modern stoves use paint instead of polish. The paint is rated for much higher temperatures than the polish, so if you are going to use the stove heavily, it may be the best way. Top brands are Stove Bright and thurmalox.
