Home depot in Smithfield RI has stove chow for $209

With Lowes 10% coupon you can get them for $189

I have been burning them in my P61 for around a week. Maybe 6 or 8 bags so far. They are very good for me. I have been burning only Somersets and I have to say the stove chow seem just as good.

The heat output seems the same, I am running on room temp so the temp in the room is always the same anyway. I did run them from a cold start withthe stove really cranking and they seemed very close to the sets in terms of heat coming out.

As for the ash there is very little. A little darker and grittier ash than the sets but no more ash.

Anyway for me they burn very hot and clean, and at $189 the price is great. If I had more room I would get like 3 more tons.

Of course Im sure everyones results will vary with different stoves.

The stove heat output should be the same for any pellet you burn. The difference will be the amount of time it takes to burn a bag and obviously the ash content.

Went to my Home Depot over the weekend and they were out of Chow and didn't expect anymore deleveries but they had Fireside Ultra.

Stoaf, no offence intended here but...Stove Chow, just about the same as Somersets??

I'd put $$ on that being a negative. I wish they were as I'd save a whole lotta mooolah.

Been dumping the HD chow in myself lately,.... dam good pellet at a dam good price,... but I wouldnt say they're as hot burning as the sets.

Just a reminder that Stove Chow is re-bagged Energex American and Fireside Ultra is re-bagged Energex Canadian. I have had very good luck with both over the years. To compare them to Somersets??....not gonna go there :)

Yea like I said I am running on room temp so cant really tell.

Have not been using more pellets though.

And when the stove is cranked up a bit just like if I crank it up with the sets it is friggin hot. My stove is real hot anyway so I cant really tell I guess.

I have tried FSU last year around 10 bags and a lot of ash and fines.

I wonder why do a re-bagging at all, you know? I'm sure so they can charge more here and less over there. Interesting that stovechow.com redirects to energex.com. So there is more proof of what you say.

The way I understand it is some of the pellet retailers sell the Energex Brands. The big box stores such as HD, Lowes, Walmart etc. sell alot of pellets as loss leaders, collectively, probably thousands of tons. The pellet manufacturers can produce more than what the pellet houses and stove shops can sell so they market them in a different bag under a different name. "Most" folks with stoves don't know the difference but us "wicked smaht" hearth.com members do. Same thing as NEWP/Green Supreme and MWP Blend in three different bags at three different outlets.

I am fan of Chow. They are not as HOT as my oak Cubex and White Lightening, but I think I can run them in the coldest weather without problems. The price is hands down great at 209 per ton. I might go grab some more while it's nice this weekend...

This year the Chow has been good. Decent heat, a little ashy, but well worth the price at Home Depot.

    MWP IN 3 different bags?????
  20. Harman Lover 007 Minister of Fire

There's the ones from TSC/HD that say premium pellet fuel, the one's with the log cabin on them, and the ones with the deer/moose sitting next to the stove on them.

I think the pellets with the deer and moose are Maine's Choice pellets.....I think they are completely different than the MWP.......

They are Maine Choice Pellets. Different company altogether.
