Dak, Take paper towel spray it with a mist sprayer bottle than put rutland glass cleaner
on it and clean glass wait 5 min than wipe with dry paper towel.

Take a wet rag and dip it in some ash, cleans the crud off like magic.

I second jpt's ash suggestion. You don't get more homegrown than that, and it works really well, IME.

I just could not believe it would work, all the people suggesting it.... Then I came across a customer who was burning unseasoned full rounds for overnight burns. (You read about it in another thread possibly). He told me he gave up cleaning his glass. Wow it was nasty black goop gunk all over it. I told the service guy... hmm... lets try this, I wanna see if it works. Sure enough it wiped right off like magic. Then I took a clean damp rag and wiped up the excess brown slime on the glass. The customer could not believe it, all those hours slaving away with the stove glass cleaner and the ash cleaned it right off. I'm a believer now.

Saw it here first...

Mix a couple tablespoons of fine ash with some water and a bit of dish soap. Use an old toothbrush to apply and scrub in small circular motions. Wipe off with paper towel. If you mix it in a small tupperware container it will last half the winter.

DITTO!!! Damp paper towel dipped in ash...and then buffed with dry paper towel. Takes but a few minutes to look like new again!

Here's a picture I took yesterday, and you can see how bad the glass looks. Can't see flames or andirons! Yeah, Zeus ain't no dummy trying to stay warm! :) The other two couldn't fit on the rug! hahaha

Both cleaned, and took less than 5 minutes!

MsBree...
A clean and beautiful hearth and three fine dogs... What more could you ask for.
Very nice...thanks for posting the pictures.

I'll use a damp paper towel with the ash and wipe the pasty substance on the glass and work the tougher spots along the edge. Than I'll spay on some windex, wipe that and it's all over. I can see clearly now!

Vinegar and water with some ash on a newspaper

OR

A 550 stack temp cleans my glass in a jiffy :)

I have no doubt about the ashes. But I bought this 2 winters ago and it's about time for a new bottle. might be 3 winters ago. Works like a charm. and it's pretty convenient to have it in a spray bottle already.
