Feeling the Heat

Found a thermometer out in the shop that is magnetic and used on the stove pipe of a wood stove to determine flue temp. So i bring it in the house and stick it on front of the pellet stove over the heat discharge grate and on #3 setting it says 195-200 °F . So then i decide to crank it up to #5 and after about 20 min. I about melted my eye lids trying to read the small numbers on it as it was up to 340 °F ! :ahhh: Had to back it down as it was 84 in here and climbing! Does this sound accurate or is there something better to use? Just wondering out loud! Thanks

tons of hits if ya do a search for thermometer.
