Without knowing anything about your stove, make, model, etc., it's pretty difficult for anyone to answer: wood, gas, coal, pellets?. What I do know is that our wood stove, in operation as our primary heat source (typical Sept - June) for 18 years, has never been cleaned or serviced by a technician, and I can't see any reason ever to do that. Your stove may be different.
