Last night was the coldest night we had here in eastern pennsylvania. Along with the cold we had some higher winds. One thing I noticed the stove was crusing at 425-450 and my stove pipe temp was higher than usual. It was running near 400 degrees. Usually runs at 300. My thermometers are located, one on the top of the stove and one about 12 inches above where the stove pipe connects to the stove. The one on the pipe is not a probe it is magnetic. The stove pipe is Elmers single wall.

Is this okay and normal? Were theses flue temps beacuse of the higher winds?

I never monitor flue temps simply because I can't due to my setup. My guess though would be the wind was facilitating a faster draft, resulting in the higher temps.

Sounds fine to me. The "standard" so to speak is to have the chimney thermometer up 18 inches from the stove top on the pipe. At 12, you are probably reading a little higher than what most people would use for comparison.

Other than your stove top temps seeming to be a bit low to me everything seems good.

I check my stove before going to bed last night at about 11:30 and the stove top was 675-700 and the chimney was about 375.

I run an Englander 30.
