Being a volunteer on our local steam railway, and living very close to where so many young US, Canadian, and British men embarked for the D Day landings in June 1944, we have had quite a few overseas visitors over the years. As time as gone on, we get fewer opportunities to say thank you. We had one such visitor from Pennsylvania a couple of weeks ago. I cannot guarantee every holiday visitor gets such special treatment, but I reckon we know how to treat our special friends from across the pond.........

Good to see these heroes receiving the honors they deserve. 16.1 million American men & women served in WW II & there are less than 1 million still living. We are losing them at a rate of 1,200 - 1,500, EVERY DAY. As a Patriot Guard Rider, I ride 7 - 10 escorts for the Honor Flight Network, bringing busloads of WW II military vets to the Albany International Airport where they are given a brief ceremony & then flown to Washington, DC, for a visit to THEIR WW II Memorial, at no charge. Every escort is a moving & humbling experience, & I wouldn't miss it for the world. If it weren't for them, we'd all be riding Asian or German bikes...

Good for you woodchip for volunteering for this sort of thing. And a big thanks to all the Brits for showing honor to this man.

What a great story, well done to the people of Swanage for making his return special.
My son has recently completed 2 tours of Afghanistan, so glad he has returned home safe and so very proud of him

And here he is on a well earned break.

God bless all our our soldiers young and old.
