Apparently original ones contained salt water. Not sure what was in the early 1900s ones but they are deemed a health hazard!

My first thought as well . . . the old red and green balls were typically filled with carbon tetracholride (forerunner to halon . . . which you may recall with the halon extinguishers which were in use until the late 1980s when the US (and many other countries) banned the production of halon along with other CFCs in an effort to slow or reverse the hole in the ozone.) The carbon tet agent is considered toxic by many . . . can also be found in old extinguishers that resemble the old fashioned insecticide sprayers.

My second thought was that a few years back -- OK, more like 15 or 20 -- there was a device similar to this only it was in the shape of a frisbee. The manufacturer was trying to sell it to fire departments with the idea that they could toss one in a window and it would go off and buy the firefighters a bit of time as they got set up.

I didn't find it on the US site but in Australia they are selling for $149 AU, so maybe $100 US?

Pretty sure that is the same stuff in an ABC rated fire extinguisher.

We already have that here in the states, my fire company doesn't have it yet but one of the mutual aide companies does and they have used it once already, according to them, it really help knock things down when they get hose lines advanced into the building, they said it works great for a room and contents type fire.
