Recently the company I work for(me) has had to partake in some product knowledge training.

Which involves air travel. Should the person doing the training/traveling(me) be compensated for time

spent in airports/flying, or only the training itself? How about weather delays and cancellations?

I don't know about your company, but mine will pay hourly associates from the time they depart for the airport to the time they reach either the hotel at their destination or the site they are visiting, whichever comes first.

In my previous jobs I would not get paid for the first hour of travel to or from work, any travel time after that would be paid. I am currently paid a salary so I really don't get paid for travel.

I dont know about hourly.... im a salaried employee and when i travel i get to expense all direct costs, including for instance milage if drive my own car to the airport. im on company time from the minute i leave my house. I dont get any extra compensation for the time, but if i am going far and spend an entire weekend day in transit i will claim a comp vacation day.

I got tied up in Detroit overnight from weather delays/cancellations along with 1200 other people. The hotel was packed of course, so I spent the night sleeping in a chair in the terminal. Arrived home the next day(Saturday) approx. 16 hours late. My company compensated me $0. Just wondering what everyones thoughts are before I go raise some hell.

Where work needs allowed I always gave comp time to hourly employees. To keep from wrecking the overtime budget. With some of them we never noticed that they weren't there.

Hell half the time my wife won't even put her meals on her expense account. She says I have to eat anyway!

Just look at it as a vacation from the daily BS.

Never took advice from a monkey before... :p

I feel I should be compensated. Apparently they don't.

Nah, would rather be at work than sittin in airports and riding on airplanes.

If you feel that you have been cheated, ask for a comp day. Doesn't really cost the company anything and you get your day back.

I am salary, so I just have to suck it up, however if it is above and beyond I will take a day or half a day at some point to even out the playing field.

Comp time at many companies can be cashed in so I like taking comp time. They think I'm taking one for the team but then I cash it out. Time is money, even comp time.

Hardly. It didn't snow where I went to school. At least not until I was going to a school where it did snow, but that was about 12 years after I'd gotten my driver's license.

Quick update- I kept my mouth shut for fear that I might say the wrong things and make the situation worse.

Today the boss walked up to me and handed me a days pay worth of cash. Gotta love a happy ending... :p
